Fire Prevention Week Link Roundup

October 8th-14th is Fire Prevention Week, and this year’s theme is “Every Second Counts, Plan 2 Ways Out!”  We know that you already consider our News page your go-to source for fire safety tips, and that you download our seasonal safety checklists to keep your home and office prepared for emergencies, but we wanted to share some other

resources to help you maximize your safety preparations this week.  Here’s a Fire Prevention Week link roundup, please use these resources to better prepare your house and family for fire, because every second truly does count.

  • Pye-Barker Fire & Safety’s Facebook Page: Listing this one first, just in case you haven’t followed us yet! We share all of our fire safety articles, tips, and checklists on our Facebook page.  That is the best place to go to find all of our past resources, and to be notified when new material is shared.  We currently have the Fall Edition of our Holiday Safety Checklist pinned to the top, so you can quickly find, download, and start using it!
  • NFPA’s Fire Prevention Week Website: This great resource has everything from informative infographics to family-friendly activities to guide you through this week.  Take the quiz to see how much you actually know about the dangers of home fires, and print their guide to creating your two-part home escape plan.  Not sure what a home escape plan is?  We explained it here.
  • Ready.gov: This government website has an entire section dedicated to explaining the dangers of home fires, ways to avoid them, and how to correctly respond when they happen.  It also has great information about other emergency situations, and tips for reviewing the proper responses with family members.
  • U.S. Fire Administration: The USFA is dedicated to “working for a fire-safe America” and teaches– through resources, media, and courses– the public about the dangers of fire and how to prevent it.  If you need any visual tools to help explain safety procedures to your children, or think your place of business would profit from a webinar on fire safety tactics, the USFA’s fire prevention page is the resource for you.
  • Sparky’s School House: This is a fantastic place to go when teaching children, whether at home or in the classroom, about fire prevention.  Sparky’s School House has material divided by grade level, informative videos, crafts, and more designed to make learning about safety understandable and enjoyable for kids.  Teachers, parents, and guardians, be sure to check out this resource.

We hope those resources help, and encourage everyone to use this week to do those fire safety tasks you’ve been avoiding.  You never know when an emergency will occur, and by the time something is burning, it will be too late to prepare.  If you have any fire safety questions, please feel free to give us a call.
