Pye-Barker is proud to announce our entrance into the “Sunflower State” with the acquisition of Kansas Fire Equipment in the thriving city of Wichita. This is an exciting entrance into the middle of the country, complements our existing Texas branches in the southern central region, and will hopefully be our first step towards a stronger presence in the central midwestern states.

Kansas Fire Equipment Co. was founded in 1950 by George Winn and has loyally served the surrounding area for over 70 years. They provide a full range of fire protection services, including the inspection, sale, and maintenance of fire extinguishers, fire suppression systems, exit/emergency lighting, and fire alarm systems. They have a full team, with 26 employees and 25 trucks serving their customers. The company is proud to have been founded, owned, and operated by veterans.

This Veterans Day they announced the sale of their business to Pye-Barker Fire & Safety. They said that they share a common goal with Pye-Barker: to provide the best fire protection services possible to their customers.
“We look forward to becoming a member of the Pye-Barker family,” shared current owner Jerry Calvert. “We would like to recognize the professionalism and integrity of their transition team and look forward to sharing in their future growth and success.”

The sale of Kansas Fire has enabled Jerry to begin his retirement. His long-time business friend and CPA Ken Idleman (pictured above with PBFS Director of Business Development Chuck Reimel, left, and owner Jerry Calvert, center), was instrumental in guiding Jerry through the transaction and was a great help with making the deal between Jerry and Pye-Barker as smooth as possible. Pye-Barker has confidence that the office will continue to run with the professionalism and efficiency Kansas Fire was known for, with long time office admins Deb Goodale and Chris Lager staying on to lead the new Pye-Barker branch and Dave Williams and Ron Unruh managing the technicians.
